Renewal FAQs

Ideally, file for renewal 3–6 months before the expiry date. You can renew from 6 months before expiry. Late renewal (with 50% surcharge) is possible up to 6 months after expiry. After that window, the trademark is permanently cancelled.

If the 6-month post-expiry grace period also passes, the trademark is removed from the register. A fresh trademark application must be filed — losing your original priority date. Restoration is possible within 1 year of removal under Section 25(4), with additional fees.

The renewal application is filed on the same day. An acknowledgment is issued immediately. The updated registration certificate from the Trade Marks Registry is typically issued within 4–8 weeks of filing.
